I don't expect many people to read this and I don't care tbh
I'll be pointing out key moments in Manga and anime so
****** SPOILER ALERT ******
*Myth and Common Belief:
Many believe that this transformation was a cliche ass pull just like in other generic Shounen where the MC recieves a plot armour power to beat a villain out of his league
Secondly it's believed to be a generic "Rage mode" where MC gets lot of power in Rage
*What triggered the transformation and how to explain it:
To put it in one word = Mental Breakdown
Whole Chimera Ant was focused on Gon constantly shifting from a jolly kid into a mentally disturbed state
But what triggered it?
Kite was extremely close to Gon. Not only was his father's student who was a key link in finding him, but also a father figure Gon always wanted to have
Kite was the first person Gon lost in his life, if this wasn't enough he hated himself for being useless and not being able to do anything for him
Killua knocked him and took him away, Killua also tried to stop him from Killing Pitou while she was healing Kumogi
This further drove him to insanity and a feeling that Killua, his most beloved friend is siding with Pitou. This hurt them both
In the same moment he had mixed feelings for Pitou. Until that point in his life, all people he met had chose whether they are good or evil, but Pitou was different. She hold an evil bias but she was deeply loyal to Meruem. She would easily go against her ideals if it was for the sake of Meruem, if it was for his command. Her nature was too much for Gon who always saw the world in black and white. She killed Kite, mutilated his corpse, is sworn enemy for the heck of it and in contrast saved Kumogi as per the Meruem's order. Gon was torn to see this evil sadistic creature being so passionate and loyal. Pitou's "Grey nature" put Gon in further depression as he was unable to comprehend her nature.
Finally the nail in the coffin was put by Pitou again
She made Gon a promise. A promise to revive Kite. A promise she broke. Promise to revive Kite. Gon maybe the MC, but he is still a child. A broken promise hurts most to a child. Then came the crashing reality that Kite is never coming back.
This triggered the deep hatred he had been holding back. His mind completly broke down. His mind broke having a single thought
"Liar! I will kill you"
In an insane state, his subconscious mind wanted power to bring his words into reality
What kind of power would be required to kill Pitou? Power of Meruem's level
That was an incredible demand, to kill a single creature who was in front of him
Stronger your grudge, higher your sacrifice, greater power you get
Gon's unstable mind made a contract as his conscious had completly broken down
The ultimate price was paid, his life force itself, his future, all his potential
His aura rose to monstrous proportion
It wasn't just blind rage, it was absolute mental breakdown
Gon's subconscious triggered the contract on it's own
Gon didn't do it willingly nor did he knew what was happening
After he had killed Pitou, he lost all his Aura which left him in a withered vegetative state, (notice Netero aged rapidly after Zero hand, same thing happened here)
And remained like that till Alluka healed him
That also is a masterpiece level of story writing, but I'll leave it for later
